I’ve always been fascinated by what makes us humans ‘tick’, and especially how we can be so much MORE than the ‘mainstream establishment’ (mind control!) tells us.
In my teens all my friends used to bring their problems to me, and I knew I’d love to work in that field in some way. But coaching was unheard of back then. The only option was psychologist, and I was repelled by its dehumanising stereotypes and soulless ‘diagnostic labels’ (my favourite TV show is The Prisoner: “I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered”.)
Instead, back in the UK after a few years teaching English round Europe, I drifted into accountancy ‘by default’ (growing up I’d always kept my dad’s books). I got a ‘good’ job in Aerospace – for a few months. Not being able to take a day off even on a beautiful day when the sea or the forest is calling you?
That didn’t sit well with a free spirit.
